Hutt Lagoon is strawberry pink due the presence of the algae dunaliella salina. This algae is a food colouring agent and used in cosmetics and dietary supplements. The colour of the lake can be impacted by how much algae is blooming, but it almost always the bright pink colour you see in pictures.
